A Sacred Destination

Fire Mountain reflects both the old India and the new India...

Fire Mountain Retreat Center takes its name from nearby Mount Mandagni, which means "eternal flame." Great spiritual masters have practiced sadhana on and near this mountain since ancient times. The mission of our retreat site is to support these timeless sacred practices such as meditation, pujas and yagnas, and the location of Fire Mountain provides a profound spiritual atmosphere to do so. This is the old India.

The new India is reflected in the modern buildings on the site, including dormitory rooms that house 30, western-style plumbing, and a fully-equipped kitchen. High-speed internet, celing fans, and multiple electrical outputs in the dorms make your stay more comfortable and convenient. The heart of the site is the meditation hall - a geodesic dome seated on a raised platform with a built-in fire pit for yagnas.

The Board governing Shri Nityanand Education Trust (SNET) dreamt of building a secure retreat center that would welcome people from all over the world.  This dream has been realized in the Fire Mountain Retreat Center. (While the retreat center is associated with the Trust, it is a stand-alone organization.)

SNET's primary project is providing pure drinking water to villagers living in the area. Currently they are getting most of their drinking water from contaminated wells and a river, which leads to rampant waterborne diseases. SNET provides free Biosand Water Filters plus education on correct water storage and proper hygiene. The filters are manufactured locally by Indians hired and trained for the work.
